We are pleased to announce that after 12 days in the hospital for his second major open-heart surgery, Hudson Trevor Allen has returned HOME!!! It was a rollercoaster ride for our superhero...from pre-op delays to complexity of surgery to post-op infection & headaches to the official words "Hudson is being discharged from hospital". Despite all the ups and downs, we could not be happier with the results. His blood oxygen levels are stable and the surgery has enabled a more permanent solution to his heart pumping capacity. His incision continues to heal and the headaches continue to subside. Hudson's smiles are becoming more and more commonplace and he is welcoming his parents' desire to hold and comfort him. Our good 'ole Huddy is beginning to make his return!
As parents, we could not be more proud of our son. Hudson has shown us time after time his willingness to fight, overcome pain, and desire to live a full, healthy life. This recent obstacle was no different. He has become an inspiration to so many through his journey. He has made us closer as a family. He has taught us unconditional love. He has proven the power of prayer and faith. He is truly a miracle and we are beyond thankful to be a witness. We love you Hudson!
While arriving home marked the end of the interstage and most critical phase of Hudson's journey, he still has further milestones to reach in months and years ahead. He will go for post-surgery checkup with surgical team next week and cardiologist the week after. These assessments will dictate frequency of checkups from that point forward. This will continue until Hudson is approximately 2-3 years old where he will then face his third surgery: the Fontan. We are confident given Hudson's early success in surgeries #1 and 2, surgery #3 will be no different. It will be successful.
Hudson will require constant attention and monitoring to ensure full recovery. He is currently on a host of prescriptions, ranging from blood pressure medication to polyvitamins. However, his Glenn procedure enables us to have a bit more confidence and flexibility. We had to finally return our blood oxygen saturation monitoring and weight scale. It is now on us to be able to assess his progress and react as needed. Additionally, Hudson is finally free to leave the house. We are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to introduce him to family, friends and coworkers. We are excited to show him the world!
4 months ago we met our superhero son and faced the beginning of his journey. Simultaneously, 4 months ago we experienced the start of an overwhelming level of support from numerous individuals, families and organizations. We sincerely cannot thank everyone enough for their words of encouragement, meals, cards and services. Most importantly, we are forever grateful for the unending prayers for our son. The prayers were constant, heartfelt and inspiring. The prayers worked.
With that, we look forward to the next phase of Hudson's journey. Fight on Hudson! You got this Superman!
