Many of you have asked for more detail regarding his heart issues and respective surgery plan. We worked with the doctors last night to provide the below images to help articulate his heart "story". This is by no means professional grade explanation and apologies in advance if we have the anatomy and physiology slightly off.
Overview of his diagnosis:
- Heterotaxy asplenia - body's blueprint is dominated to one side vs. the other. In Hudson's case, right side dominant (thus, absence of spleen, two right shaped lungs, liver more rectangular, etc).
- Dextrocardia - heart pointed towards right side of body (i.e. flipped).
- DORV - Double outlet right ventricle, meaning pulmonary artery and aorta both flow out of same chamber (vs. each one having their own specific chamber).
- Pulmonary atresia - bloodflow from heart to pulmonary artery is blocked or restricted, limiting bloodflow to lungs.
- Unbalanced CAVC - unbalanced complete AV canal, meaning there is no separation of bottom two chambers of heart but instead one large one.
