Day 4: Hudson did great overnight! His stats were unchanged last night vs. prior to surgery and his wounds are healing well. Most importantly, he began breathing strong on his own so they removed the breathing tubes early this morning. Another item off the checklist! They kept nasal tubes on him for sufficient oxygen and with a post-operative medication to eliminate potential for fluid buildup in lungs. They hope to remove these as well tomorrow.
At lunchtime, Ashley arrived at the hospital for one mission....hold her baby! With the omphalocele surgery and removal of breathing tube, she was now able to cuddle with Hudson for the first time. We snapped a few pictures to capture the moment. In addition to Ashley, a few other members of the family were able to hold him, including Grandma Bev, father Jon and aunt Lindsey who saw him for the first time today!
Today was truly awesome. After a few hectic days, the world began to slow down around us and we were able to spend quality time with our son. Holding him. Hugging him. Talking to him. Our confidence grew in his ability to fight and our confidence grew in our ability to protect him. We were growing as a family and share these great moments as a family.
Sincere appreciation to Jon's co-workers (Deland, Felix, Chad, Matt, Evan) who visited the hospital this morning to provide their support for Hudson and family. Jon's spirits were definitely uplifted! We appreciate the kind act of visitation and are thankful for the overwhelming support of generosity from his organization. They even brought good luck as the breathing tube was removed during their visit!
Special thanks to nurses Tim and Heather for their tremendous assistance with Hudson today!
An additional thanks to Grandma Bev for spending the night tonight! After nearly 72 straight hours at the hospital, Jon was borderline delirious and on the verge of body shutdown. So thankful for the break to be able to shower, eat and sleep at home...but more importantly to see Harlowe and Oliver again.
