Today is Hudson's second day of recovery post surgery. He continues to progress well - stats are within range, weaning him off of medications and removing a few monitoring devices. However, last night was a little rough as the breathing and stomach tubes were quite uncomfortable for him as he began to awake from sedation. They were originally hoping to remove the tubes this morning but ultrasound and xray showed small amount of fluid on right lung...so they wanted to be cautious and delayed removal to tomorrow. They just ran additional xray this afternoon and it showed good progress vs. this morning. Additionally, he is breathing above respirator rate. Both are giving us confidence that tomorrow may be the day for removal. The team was also to find the right balance of sedation to keep him calm ahead of tube removal and as a result is resting peacefully today.
We continue to meet the most wonderful people through this experience, both hospital staff and visitors. These people continue to give us strength, hope and confidence in the path ahead. A great example of this was today, where a family we recently just met extended an invitation to join their family in prayer. With each one of us holding hands in unity, we prayed for both children to overcome the obstacles handed to them. It was truly humbling and a gracious sign of generosity and support. We are so thankful for their kindness.
We were sent an inspirational message by a dear friend yesterday and found it very fitting for Hudson's situation. We have attached the picture below for everyone to share in the message.
On a lighter note, we are beginning to receive pictures of fellow participants in "Hair for Hudson". There is definitely a consistent theme of gray hair, but the "follicle following" as Jon calls it is awesome to see!
We also wanted to share pictures of the "books" that the Child Life team from Childrens created for siblings Harlowe and Oliver. They made it seem as though Hudson made the books for them and watching them scan through the pages this morning was touching. Even though they have only seen their little buddy once so far, they are growing closer to him through these unique experiences. They are so anxious to have him home!
Special thanks to nurses Kaylinn, Sam, Sarah, Carla and Catherine for their extreme amount of support following Hudson's surgery. None of them have left his side and have provided immediate attention to any of his needs. Thank you so much!
